Skate City, SRQ is a non-profit organization started by professional skateboarder and Olympian, Jake Ilardi.

Skateboarding is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world. It’s an Olympic sport. There are many benefits of skateboarding that will help your child not only in their adolescent years but as an adult. Skateboarding increases coordination, builds metabolism (burns calories), strengthens muscles, builds stamina, and increases self-confidence! Personal growth and individuality are core components of skateboarding culture. Skateboarding and its culture teach kids social etiquette, inclusion, empathy, perseverance, and goal-setting. It also allows them the opportunity for artistic expression through style and tricks. Skateboarding is also FUN!

“I would be thrilled if a new skate park was built. I’m from the other side of town and take two buses to arrive at Payne Park. We all would love to branch out the skate expedition to more people who have less transportation.

“Payne skate park holds a special place in my heart. It’s the birthplace of my passion for filmmaking. Growing up there and capturing Jake, my twin brother's skating journey has not only helped him become an Olympic athlete, but it has also paved the way for my successful career as a professional cinematographer and director.”

The vast majority of skateboarders are under the age of 18. This number is probably going to get bigger over the next five years as the industry will continue to grow. 23.9% of all skaters are female.
